Kitchens Without Borders, launched in March in the Bay Area, spotlights the immigrant- and refugee-owned businesses we partner with at DoorDash. Today, we’re excited to expand Kitchens Without Borders to include restaurants in Los Angeles and Chicago, two cities with an incredibly diverse population and distinctive food scene to match.
DoorDash’s mission is to connect people with possibility by creating valuable opportunities for entrepreneurs to reach new audiences. We believe we can further empower local economies by supporting immigrant communities who historically face heightened barriers to success.
Here are a few of the ways we’re supporting immigrant-owned businesses:
- Starting today, DoorDash customers in Los Angeles, Chicago, and the Bay Area can discover and order from immigrant-owned businesses in their neighborhoods by entering “KWB” in the search field in-app or online. In some locations, these merchants are featured in a carousel on the homepage.
- Through July 31, we’re offering a $0 delivery fee* for customers ordering from any KWB restaurant for the first time.
- All KWB business owners receive free access to small business advisors, made possible by our partnership with Pacific Community Ventures, a nonprofit social enterprise and community development financial institution. Research shows that small businesses receiving three or more hours of mentoring achieve higher revenues and increased growth, so we’re excited to offer this resource.
- Our dedicated channel, kitchenswithoutborders.com, spotlights the unique immigrant stories of restaurant entrepreneurs in our communities, including 10 new featured restaurants in the greater Los Angeles and Chicago areas. In Los Angeles, discover Got Kosher?, Brazilian Plate House, Sattdown Jamaican Grill, Mayura Indian Restaurant, and Mi Rinconcito Azteca; in Chicagoland, learn more about Janik’s Cafe, Wu’s Chinese Cuisine, Max’s Take Out, SoJu BBQ, and NaKorn.
