Simply put – fees help us operate the DoorDash platform that connects millions of consumers everyday with their favorite local businesses. These fees go to paying Dashers fairly, offering merchants tools to grow their businesses, providing customers with exceptional service and support, and building advanced safety and fraud features to help keep all users safe.
At DoorDash, our approach to fees is guided by foundational principles including fairness and transparency. There are no hidden fees, junk fees or surprises at checkout. We’re upfront on pricing. You will always see what you will pay – including fees – before you ever checkout. The delivery fee associated with each store is clearly displayed to consumers on our marketplace home page and again on each merchant store page, and consumers can see the fees they will pay on an order while they are building their cart.
At a time when the cost-of-living can be painfully high, we know that now – more than ever – every dollar counts. That’s why we’re constantly working hard to make sure our services remain affordable and accessible for everyone. In 2022 alone, we reduced average consumer fees per order by over 8%. And with $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders, we have delivered our millions of DashPass subscribers significant savings since 2018.
Today we’re sharing an update on our ongoing efforts to make our fees even more transparent and affordable, including introducing new and more detailed in-app explainers, and rolling back regulatory response fees.
- Additional transparent fee explainers: We’re further enhancing the customer experience and making our fees more transparent by rolling out additional in-app explainers available to consumers during their ordering experience. On the top of every restaurant page, users can now tap on our “pricing and fees” tooltip to learn more about menu prices and detailed information about all applicable fees that may apply to their order.
- Even clearer promotions: We want to make it even easier for consumers to know when a promotion or discount is being applied to their order. At check-out, they will now get more information about how a promotion is reducing their delivery fee.
- Rolling back regulatory response fees: In response to regulatory requirements in specific locations, DoorDash has in some instances introduced Regulatory Response Fees to ensure we can continue to provide services in these markets. Where possible, we have removed these fees, creating additional savings to customers. To date, we have removed more than 80 of these fees across the United States, and we will continue to remove these fees in the coming months as more regulations expire.
Importantly, we’re committed to exploring even more ways to further make our fees upfront and transparent, and we look forward to sharing future updates with all of our customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. You will continue to always see what you will pay – multiple times – before you ever checkout.

What’s the difference between the service and delivery fee?
- Service Fee: Service fees vary but typically are a percentage of your subtotal for most restaurant orders. A flat, minimum service fee may apply on small orders. A 5% service fee applies for most eligible DashPass restaurant orders. Percentage-based fees help to ensure that customers pay less for smaller orders.
- Delivery Fee: This flat fee is charged on delivery orders and helps DoorDash cover costs associated with getting your order directly to you. It is a flat fee set based on the merchant and how far away it is from the consumer. DashPass members enjoy $0 delivery fees on eligible orders.
Both the Service Fee and Delivery Fee play a distinct and important role in powering the platform to provide more choice and affordability to all customers.
Where can I find what the Delivery Fee will be?
The delivery fee associated with each store is clearly displayed on our marketplace home page, enabling consumers to easily compare between merchants, and again on top of each merchant store page.
What if I want to see what fees I will pay before I checkout?
Before the checkout process even begins, we start calculating all applicable fees as consumers add one or more items to their cart. Consumers can easily view the fee amounts applicable to their order with one tap.
Is DoorDash raising its fees?
We are laser-focused on delivering great value and the best possible experience to our customers. In fact, we reduced average consumer fees per order by over 8% in 2022 providing further relief from the cost-of-living crisis.
Does DoorDash charge iPhone users more than Android users for the same orders?
No. DoorDash does not charge more based on the type of phone you use. For more information, visit here.
What is the Expanded Range Fee?
We are currently piloting an Expanded Range Fee to help ensure consumers continue to have the option of ordering from merchants who are further away. Consumers will see this on the restaurant’s menu page and at checkout. The pilot is only available in select markets. As with any pilot, we will evaluate the results and feedback before making any decisions.
What are Express Fees?
In some areas, consumers can choose to have their delivery prioritized for a small additional fee. This fee is optional and displayed to consumers at checkout.
