DoorDash is a high growth company with multiple business lines, operating in 27 countries today. This means that change is the norm, and no matter what role you hold at DoorDash, you need to be an operator who can articulate a strategy in pursuit of a new area while diving into the lowest level of detail and back. To then be responsible for that team – a team supporting millions of people in communities across the globe – takes a special kind of operator.

Today, I’m thrilled to announce that Mariana Garavaglia has joined DoorDash as Chief People Officer.

Mariana has held C-suite roles at fast-paced technology companies, overseeing business operations and people functions at scale. It’s her high judgment and strong problem solving leadership developed through these experiences that make her such a natural fit for DoorDash’s next chapter.

In her 11 years at Amazon, Mariana was responsible for managing Amazon’s specialty retail business, launched Amazon’s first brick-and-mortar stores, and held several senior HR leadership positions across the company. Her roles at Peloton Interactive and Relativity Space were similarly multifaceted, guiding key business decisions while also fostering cultures of high performance and empathy. Before entering tech, she spent five years as a bilingual educator at an at-risk school in Texas’ Dallas County, driven by a desire to expand opportunity through education. (She was even nominated for Teacher of the Year.)

Throughout the last two decades, she’s managed sprawling business units, overseen complex disciplines such as compliance and risk management, and thoughtfully directed company-wide programs around organizational design, effective coordination and planning, compensation, diversity, equity, and inclusion, employee engagement, and more.

If this sounds like a broad remit for one person, it’s because it is. While Mariana’s operations and business acumen are impressive by any measure, her commitment to driving businesses forward with people at the center is the skill that DoorDash and our audiences will benefit from most.

Mariana is joining at an exciting time in DoorDash’s journey. As we continue to grow DoorDash’s businesses beyond restaurants, particularly in new categories like convenience, grocery, and retail, I have no doubt that she will make an excellent and impactful addition to our company and People leadership.

Please join me in welcoming Mariana to the team!
