Customers placed more than 70 million total orders for vegetarian and vegan food items on DoorDash in the first half of 2022 according to aggregate U.S. DoorDash data

Looking to add more leafy greens and plant-based burgers to your plate this fall? Today, in celebration of World Vegetarian Day on October 1, DoorDash is unveiling the five most popular vegetarian and vegan restaurants in cities across the United States. From the vegan bakery to the plant-based burger joint, there is something delectable for everyone on this list. 

More Americans are turning to greener pastures this year with 1 in 101 saying they do not eat meat and 32% of Americans planning to eat more plant-based and vegan foods this year2. In fact, more than 9.7 million U.S. consumers now follow a vegetarian diet, an increase from just 290,000 in 20073.  

Access to and consumer interest in plant-based meat is growing at rapid speeds. According to aggregate U.S. DoorDash data, plant-based meat orders in the first half of 2022 were more than 1.5M total orders. And with the global plant-based meat industry expecting a compound annual growth rate of 19.3% from 2022 to 20304 plant-based meals seem to be here for good. 

So, on World Vegetarian Day, consider putting down the cheeseburger and picking up a plant-based patty from some of the standout veggie-centric cuisine on DoorDash. From fully vegan cafes to vegetarian bakeries, here are the best spots that sprouted to the top on our list in your local city:

Local List Methodology:

The Most Popular Vegetarian lists were generated by analyzing data from vegetarian or vegan restaurants from June 17, 2022 through September 15, 2022 on the DoorDash platform, using click through rate and order count. 

Broader DoorDash vegetarian and vegan order trends is aggregated data based on vegetarian food tags and plant-based meat tags for all U.S. markets for 2021 and January through June 2022.
