Extending Our Support for Dashers to Help Offset Heightened Gas Expenses

We know over the past few months people have been feeling the sting at the gas pump. That’s why last month, we announced a Gas Rewards program aimed to offset rapidly rising gas prices. Our goal is to ensure that we provide earning opportunities that remain accessible and viable for all and to keep the most money in Dashers’ pockets.

With gas prices still elevated today, we’re proud to announce that we will extend our cash back program past April and through the rest of the summer to ensure Dashers feel supported when they fill up their tanks. Through August, Dashers with a DasherDirect business prepaid Visa card will still qualify for 10% cash back on their gas purchases at the pump anytime, anywhere in the U.S.

Since launching our Gas Rewards program, we’ve continued to monitor gas prices and regularly gather feedback from Dashers, including members of our Dasher Community Council, to understand the impact of our Gas Rewards program and best shape our plans moving forward. We’re pleased to know the vast majority of Dashers found these efforts valuable: Nearly 74% of Dashers surveyed rated the program as excellent or good, with more Dashers favorable to the cash back perks offered in March.** Additionally, since the cash back program launched in March:

  • Dashers have saved an average of $0.42 per gallon at the pump on every visit using a DasherDirect card.***
  • Dashers have used the 10% cash back benefit through DasherDirect in over 8 million transactions across U.S. gas stations nationwide.
  • On average, per hour, over 8,600 Dashers save on gas with 10% cash back through DasherDirect.

“Going to the gas station has become a stressful part of my week,” said Michelle Ronca, a Dasher from Palm Springs, CA. “But over the past month, with 10% cash back on gas through my DasherDirect card, the trip has become significantly less daunting. Not only do I keep more of my earnings from dashing, but I’m also saving on costs related to other parts of my daily life, like driving to work or picking up groceries. At the end of the day, this means I have more money in my pocket to spend on the things that matter to me.”

At a time when so many are feeling the impact of heightened gas prices, we’re proud to offer flexible and valuable work opportunities with low barriers to entry. Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests it takes 13 weeks for the median unemployed person in the U.S. to find a job. On the other hand, people can quickly sign up to dash, and those who qualify are often eligible to begin earning money within one day of signing up: In 2021, around 56% of new Dashers completed their first delivery within seven days of starting the sign up process. Once approved to be a Dasher, Dashers can apply for DasherDirect to get rewards including 10% cash back on gas, among other perks. We know access to flexible, supplemental income is important and we’re proud to connect so many with earnings opportunities when they need them.

Through the summer months, we’ll continue to monitor gas prices, listen to the Dasher community, and seek feedback as we iterate on our programs to ensure that Dashers are making the most out of their time spent dashing.

This offer may be changed or withdrawn at any time and cash back payments may be delayed or withheld when fraud, abuse, or unlawful activity is suspected.
