Today, we are thrilled to announce that Tia Sherringham, Vice President, Legal is being named DoorDash’s General Counsel, and that Kofi Amoo-Gottfried, Vice President, Marketing is being named as the company’s first-ever Chief Marketing Officer.
As the standing heads of the legal and marketing organizations, respectively, Tia and Kofi are the best leaders to hold these titles and usher DoorDash into its next phase of growth. We are proud to share these promotions as well-deserved recognitions of the contributions that both Tia and Kofi have made to DoorDash and its stakeholders.
Tia Sherringham: DoorDash’s General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Tia is a passionate member of DoorDash’s team, whose leadership has far exceeded the boundaries of the legal team from day one. She joined DoorDash in 2017 as Associate General Counsel, before serving as the VP, Legal from 2018 through 2021. As General Counsel at DoorDash, Tia will continue to oversee the company’s legal team, as well as the company’s security, IT, & enterprise technology functions. She will also become Corporate Secretary for the company, having served as Assistant Corporate Secretary to date.
Tia is a litigator by background, serving as a law clerk to the Hon. Barbara S. Jones in the Southern District of New York, before joining the law firm of Keker, Van Nest & Peters, where she represented clients in high-stakes litigation including Electronic Arts, Twitter, and Google. Prior to joining DoorDash, Tia was a founding member of Instacart’s legal team, where she worked as a commercial and product counsel.
In her time at DoorDash, Tia has built the Legal Team from the ground up and spearheaded the work on numerous cross-functional initiatives that contributed directly to the company’s success. Tia and her team are known as strategic partners who both protect and accelerate the business at every turn. As a leader, Tia embodies DoorDash’s values and has built a team that operates with the same principles: problem solving at the lowest level of detail, acting with urgency and compassion, thinking holistically about advancing DoorDash’s interests, and inviting others to the table in a way that gives voice and purpose.
Over the last four years, Tia led DoorDash’s major fundraising rounds and managed our IPO from start to finish, including the drafting of the S-1 and shepherding our business from private to public. She has been deeply involved in key business decisions across the company, such as the recently-announced Wolt deal, and has been a critical partner in enabling DoorDash to scale into new geographies and categories, including laying the groundwork for the delivery of alcohol on the DoorDash Marketplace.
In addition to her legal leadership role, Tia co-founded the company’s first employee resource group, Women@ DoorDash. Upon returning from maternity leave, she became the executive sponsor of the Parents@ DoorDash group, a role she holds today. She is a staunch advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion at DoorDash, and a steward of our culture, company-wide.
Kofi Amoo-Gottfriend: DoorDash’s first-ever Chief Marketing Officer
Kofi is a dynamic marketing leader who has built an extraordinary career on the belief that brands and businesses only matter if they solve real problems for people. He joined DoorDash as VP of Marketing in May 2019 overseeing Brand Marketing, Product Marketing, Partner Marketing, Creative, and Insights, and has since expanded his leadership to oversee Integrated Marketing Strategy & Ops, International Marketing, Growth Marketing, and Retention Marketing prior to his promotion to CMO, during which DoorDash experienced significant continued growth. He will continue to lead these teams as the first Chief Marketing Officer at DoorDash.
Prior to his role at DoorDash, Kofi held several leadership roles in Marketing and Creative Strategy, including stints at Facebook/Meta as the VP of Brand & Consumer Marketing, at FCB New York as the Chief Strategy Officer, at Bacardi Global Brands as the Global Communications Director for the Rum Category, at Publicis West Africa as the founder and Managing Director of the first majority-owned network agency on the African continent, and at Wieden+Kennedy as the Senior Strategic Planner on Nike.
Kofi’s leadership and influence has been instrumental in fueling DoorDash’s growth and propelling the company to market share leadership. He consistently embodies DoorDash’s values in everything he does and has built a culture of clarity, transparency and empowerment within his team to drive quality decision making. Kofi has redefined the DoorDash brand to meaningfully empower local economies, provide access and equality, and celebrate the diversity of American cuisines and culture on the platform, driving results for the DoorDash business and its stakeholders.
Kofi has led the company through numerous milestones, including the development of DoorDash’s first fully integrated campaign in 2019, first Super Bowl campaign in 2021, and “Open For Delivery” – a campaign focused on surfacing open restaurants to consumers – which was launched in just six days, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also shaped DoorDash’s approach to crucial issues like standing up for immigrants and Black lives. Kofi’s done this while evolving the marketing operating model to unlock greater collaboration within teams and across the business, thus empowering the Marketing team to be more deeply integrated with cross functional partners and elevating marketing’s role as a strategic driver responsible for influencing business outcomes.
Both at DoorDash and earlier in his career, Kofi has received accolades from AdAge, Adweek, Business Insider and more, recognizing him as a top global marketing leader. He has embedded a culture of purpose within DoorDash, including the creation of the company’s brand compass to unlock more agile decision-making across the business in pursuit of greater access, fairness, and progress.
A word from Tony Xu, DoorDash CEO and Co-Founder
Tia and Kofi are not only A+ in their craft, but they are extreme owners who have always put DoorDash above their teams and themselves. This has resulted in their capacity to achieve business success beyond just that of their respective teams.
Their abilities to – think from first principles, operate at the lowest level of detail, create pragmatic and winning solutions to challenging problems, build and develop world class teams, and become learning machines who always look to get 1% better everyday – have earned the trust of all of our audiences, internally and externally.
