DoorDash today announced the arrival of DashMart, a new type of convenience and grocery store, in Canada. Housed under the “convenience” tab in the DoorDash app, DashMart carries over 2,000 grocery and convenience items including everything from fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy, pantry staples, household essentials, and more. DashMart currently operates in five cities including Toronto, London, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Kitchener, with more locations opening over the next year.
“We accelerated our launch into the grocery and convenience categories amidst the pandemic to address a heightened consumer need for household essentials on demand. Now we are excited to offer customers a one-stop shopping experience with fast, affordable deliveries,” said Shilpa Arora, GM of Canada, “Most importantly, we’ve seen from our DashMart locations in the U.S., that restaurants and local merchants can find success selling their retail products and reaching online customers in new ways or for the first time.”
In addition to a broad assortment of grocery staples, DashMart offers local merchant products such as favorites from Juke Fried Chicken and Nook Pasta Room. Depending on their location, customers can browse from a selection of local products including:
- Rawcology’s line of Granolas, Coconut Chips and more;
- Not Too Sweet’s Craft Sodas;
- Hoochy ‘Booch Kombucha;
- Pilot Coffee Roasters’ Coffee;
- 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters’ Coffee; and
- Bagelsmith Bagels
DoorDash also works to donate excess grocery and perishable items to local communities through non-profits and food banks.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with DashMart to bring our Not Too Sweet craft sodas to the Vancouver community. For a smaller local producer like ourselves, DashMart fills the gap between the farmers market and the retail chains,” said Elaine Van, CEO of Not Too Sweet. “DashMart will provide Not Too Sweet with a new distribution channel for our craft sodas. Their offering closely aligns with our target demographic who are used to shopping online, and almost instant delivery. We look forward to strengthening the partnership as DashMart grows their Vancouver operations.”
“Juke has always taken pride in the products we make, the ingredients we source, and the partners we work with. With Doordash’s DashMart coming to Vancouver this allows Juke to expand its brand of packaged goods further into the Vancouver market by partnering with Doordash and their new DashMart venture. DashMart is a great way to shop local and shop with ease. Juke is happy to be a part of this new shopping experience.”
“Exploring new digital channels while keeping customer acquisition costs low are key components of our growth strategy,”said Giuliano Caracciolo, Co-Founder of Colossal Cookie Co. “Being a merchant partner on DashMart has enabled us to tap into an entirely new customer base in Toronto who have the opportunity to try our product. Early metrics indicate this channel can be a significant source of revenue for us and we’re excited to be a part of it. We can definitely see DashMart fueling the growth of many Canadian brands in the future.”
“This is an exciting time for Toronto as we work to rebuild our city post-pandemic. We have seen over the past few months an increased interest in our city from businesses who are keen to set up shop or grow their already established presence. The latest news from DoorDash is one example of that investment being made in our city. This is the vote of confidence we need in knowing that Toronto is ready to come back stronger than ever. I want to congratulate DoorDash on the launch of DashMart and thank them for choosing Toronto to expand their operations,” said Mayor John Tory.
To meet customers’ demand over the last year, DoorDash has expanded its convenience and grocery offerings to bring everyday household essentials to customers’ doorsteps, and have since signed on national and regional convenience stores in the country. DashMart—along with many of our convenience partners—is available on DashPass, DoorDash’s subscription service that offers members unlimited free delivery fees and reduced service fees on orders over $12 from hundreds of thousands of local and national businesses nationwide. DashPass members can enjoy these benefits on all DashMart purchases on orders of $12 or more.
