Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Small businesses power our local economies — they create jobs, uplift our neighborhoods, and serve as the heart of local communities. During Hispanic Heritage Month, DoorDash is excited to highlight and support Latino-owned restaurants, provide Spanish-language educational resources to restaurant owners, and announce our partnership with the Latino Restaurant Association.

Ken and Jeannette Flores-Katz founded ¡Buenos Dias! Cafe, a Salvadorian-inspired restaurant in 2012. They participated in the spring 2021 cohort of the DoorDash Main Street Strong Accelerator.

During Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the year, we’re proud to celebrate and support diverse Latino merchants, Dashers, and communities. This includes restaurant owners like Ken and Jeannette Flores-Katz, who are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the pupusa, the traditional food of El Salvador. “We are keeping this history alive by introducing it to our culturally curious customers who are excited to learn about different Latin foods that they don’t regularly see,” Ken and Jeannette Flores-Katz said.

Support local Latino-owned businesses on DoorDash

DoorDash users can support Latino-owned businesses like the ¡Buenos Dias! Cafe by checking out DoorDash’s new Sabor Latino collection in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and Tampa. On Caviar, you can explore our Latino-owned restaurant collections in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami.

Providing tools to grow Latino-owned businesses

Latino-owned restaurants will be able to access capacity-building resources such as loan matching in partnership with Kiva, free marketing, legal, and technical assistance through Start Small Think Big, and a 30-day free trial for restaurants joining DoorDash for the first time. Latino-owned small businesses can learn more and enroll here.

We’re also partnering with the Latino Restaurant Association (LRA), who will provide all DoorDash and Caviar affiliated merchants who join the LRA in 2021 with a free two-year membership. Merchants will be invited to attend the National Spanish Language Webinar where they can learn about delivery and how to use DoorDash to grow their business, co-hosted with the LRA on October 7. DoorDash and Caviar-affiliated merchants can register for the free two-year LRA membership by clicking here and using code DOORDASH at checkout.

“Since 2018, the Latino Restaurant Association has been dedicated to promoting, supporting and educating restaurateurs and small business owners to ensure the equitable economic growth of the Latino restaurant sector across the United States,” said Lilly Rocha, Executive Director and CEO, Latino Restaurant Association. “This new partnership with DoorDash will allow us to build on this mission at a bigger scale. We’re excited to welcome DoorDash-affiliated restaurants into our network and build a collective voice to advocate for our shared priorities, provide access to business-building tools and help develop meaningful relationships.”

These efforts are a part of DoorDash’s Entrepreneurship and Access programs, which work to empower underserved communities through programs like Kitchens Without Borders and the Main Street Strong Accelerator.

Expanding Spanish-language tools for restaurants

We’re excited to announce that our Restaurant University series is now available in Spanish. This content series is available to any business owner, regardless of whether they are on the DoorDash platform, and covers topics like how to finance your restaurant and how to implement digital tools to help your business grow.

It’s important for us to empower the communities we serve by making our programs accessible to more people. This update to the Restaurant University series will help more Spanish-speaking small business owners access the resources to succeed, grow, and reach their potential.

Supporting Latino-led organizations and highlighting our Latinx@ employee resource group

We’re proud to work with Latino-led organizations supporting the communities we serve. This month, DoorDash will contribute $25,000 in Community Credits to Servicios de la Raza and the Latin American Youth Center, providing DoorDash gift cards for program participants to order meals, groceries and other essentials.

Our employee community, led by our Latinx@ Employee Resource Group, is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting a series of events, including fireside conversations with DoorDash leaders and women in tech, a small business showcase, a cocktail class with our Mexico team, and more!

During Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the year, DoorDash is proud to celebrate and support diverse Latino merchants, Dashers, and communities.
