Nearly two years ago, DoorDash Kitchens established its Bay Area roots in Redwood City with the mission of helping merchants to further expand their reach and revenue with the flexibility of not having to establish their own traditional brick and mortar location. As more diners are craving the convenience and delight of on-demand delivery, our goal with DoorDash Kitchens is to empower restaurants to reach new customers at a lower cost and also help introduce new brands to customers for the very first time.
Today, we are excited to officially open DoorDash Kitchens San Jose, a pop-up kitchen bringing some of San Francisco’s favorite local brands, plus national icons to the area. The six initial restaurants from the Bay Area and beyond launching in San Jose with DoorDash include:
The San Jose facility offers nearby customers an incredible, curated selection of complementary options, whether you’re craving Compost Cookies from Milk Bar, a Three Cheese Classic from The Melt Express, or a Brown Sugar Pearl Black Tea Latte from YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea. Customers can enjoy 25% off (up to $5) of their first delivery order from each of our DoorDash Kitchens San Jose restaurant partners using promo code EXTRA25 from July 29 — September 30*.
“Through DoorDash Kitchens, Canter’s Deli is able to expand beyond Southern California to bring our West Coast deli experience to the Bay Area,” said Marc Canter, Owner of Canter’s Deli. “Customers know about Canter’s Deli beyond Los Angeles, so we knew we wanted to jump at the opportunity to partner with DoorDash to reach more people in new communities. We appreciate the flexibility of being able to test new markets without committing to a long-term lease required of a brick and mortar location.”
The DoorDash Kitchens concept is located in Westfield Oakridge and customers can now order for pickup and delivery via the DoorDash app or website. Customers in San Jose, Saratoga, and Campbell will now be able to enjoy delivery from six restaurants, some of which are new to Northern California altogether, while anyone in the area can place a pickup order.
“The restaurant industry is experiencing a time of incredible acceleration, and we are excited to continue exploring new ways to help partners globally pull forward to meet speed and pace of innovation with new kitchen models,” said Ruth Isenstadt, Director of DoorDash Kitchens. “We are honored to partner with this group of incredible restaurants to launch our delivery and pickup only location in San Jose.”
The new San Jose facility comes to life through DoorDash Kitchens Full Service. DoorDash Kitchens closely collaborated with each of the merchants to optimize their menu for delivery and pickup, plus assumes the day-to-day operations of each restaurant. To help kickstart the kitchen and maintain the same quality of service expected from these restaurants, DoorDash partnered with culinary operator A La Couch to engage cooking staff and prepare meals on DoorDash’s behalf.
By launching in San Jose, DoorDash Kitchens creates opportunities for not only merchants and Dashers, but also generated upwards of 25 new roles spanning from Line Cooks to Head Chefs who will train alongside restaurant brands and cook their menus, in addition to Front of House staff to oversee the delivery and pickup orders.
“San José has always served as a launchpad for new ideas that help businesses flourish and allow our residents to access the best that the world has to offer,” said San José Mayor, Sam Liccardo. “The launch of DoorDash Kitchens in San José will empower local restaurants to grow their business during this time of recovery, and will also allow San Joséans to order food from a selection of incredible brands from across the U.S. for the first time. Thank you to DoorDash for choosing San José; we look forward to laying the groundwork for DoorDash Kitchens to come.”
